The Nu Rome project draws its initial inspiration from Italian neorealist cinema, an artistic movement that explored social realities through a raw and authentic representation of daily life. This influence guided the tone and approach to storytelling, aiming to capture not only the aesthetics but also the sense of immediate reality and emotional impact that characterized that cinematic movement. From here came the idea of transposing the same concepts into a futuristic Rome, where the past clashes with an advanced and complex reality. We have thus generated a series of images that not only pay homage to neorealist cinema but project it into a new dimension, exploring themes of freedom, control, and the eternal struggle between progress and tradition. *Nu Rome* thus becomes a visual metaphor of the eternal city that continues to evolve, reflecting the complexities of a society that, while changing, remains deeply tied to its historical and cultural roots.
This creative process allowed us to deeply explore not only the artistic theme but also the required social theme, offering a narrative that is as much an aesthetic investigation as it is a critical reflection on the direction of our social and cultural future. The project consists of creating a series of 16:9 format images that portray a futuristic Rome layered on its past. The set focuses on a dystopian but aesthetically rich vision that reflects themes of urban and technological decay. The atmospheres show a strong contrast between the opulence of characters belonging to the clergy and the decaying urban environment, as has been the case for centuries in the history and culture of the eternal city, emphasizing the dichotomy between past and future but also the immutability of what distinguishes temporal power; the use of vivid colors for the clerical robes worn by those who pull the strings of this power and more muted colors for what is represented by the social context in which they move enhances this visual tension, adding emotional depth to the narrative.
The images were generated using a txt2img artificial intelligence model, with detailed prompts to ensure the adequate realization of the chosen themes. During the creation process, particular attention was given to the balanced distribution of visual elements to ensure that each component of the set also contributed to the overall narrative. Traditional layer editing was not used, but each feedback and interaction led to the progressive development of the visual result in multiple steps. The process involved tools for image generation, starting from detailed prompts developed based on the project criteria and in relation to the artists’ creativity. This approach allowed for great flexibility in visual realization and aesthetic experimentation. The result is the endpoint of a journey made of continuous exchanges and stimuli between the creative part and the tools used. From this point of view, the textual prompts used for the generation and modification of images were formulated to specifically guide the AI model towards the production of images that were enriched and guided respecting the desired theme and stylistic choices. Each step of the interaction process was guided by detailed feedback exchanges, allowing creative adjustments that gradually strengthened the visual and emotional impact of the images. This collaboration ensured that each image not only met the initial objectives but resonated with a coherent and engaging artistic vision. The final result is a series of images that not only capture the essence of *Nu Rome* but evoke a deep reflection on the duality of Rome as a symbol of ancient and new, of decay and rebirth.

Il progetto Nu Rome trae una prima ispirazione dal cinema neorealista italiano, corrente artistica che esplorava le realtà sociali attraverso una rappresentazione cruda e autentica della vita quotidiana. Questa influenza ha guidato il tono e l’approccio alla narrazione, mirando a catturare non solo l’estetica ma anche il senso di immediata realtà e impatto emotivo che caratterizzava quel movimento cinematografico. Da qui l’idea di trasporre gli stessi concetti in una Roma futuristica, dove il passato si scontra con una realtà avanzata e complessa. Abbiamo quindi generato una serie di immagini che non solo rendono omaggio al cinema neorealista ma lo proiettano in una nuova dimensione, esplorando temi di libertà , controllo ed eterna lotta tra progresso e tradizione. Nu Rome diventa così una metafora visiva dell’eterna città che continua a evolversi, riflettendo le complessità di una società che, pur cambiando, rimane profondamente legata alle sue radici storiche e culturali.
Questo processo creativo ha permesso di esplorare profondamente non solo il tema artistico ma anche quello sociale richiesto, offrendo una narrazione che è tanto un’indagine estetica quanto una riflessione critica sulla direzione del nostro futuro sociale e culturale. Il progetto consiste nella creazione di una serie di immagini in formato 16:9 che ritraggono una Roma futuristica e stratificata sul suo passato. Il set si focalizza su una visione distopica ma esteticamente ricca, che riflette temi di decadenza urbana e tecnologica. Le atmosfere mostrano un forte contrasto tra l’opulenza dei personaggi appartenenti al clero e l’ambiente urbano decadente, così come già avviene da secoli nella storia e cultura della città eterna, sottolineando la dicotomia tra passato e futuro ma anche l’immutabilità di ciò che contraddistingue il potere temporale; l’uso di colori vividi per gli abiti talari indossati da chi muove i fili di questo potere e di colori più tenui per ciò che è rappresentato dal contesto sociale tra cui essi si muovono esalta questa tensione visiva, aggiungendo profondità emotiva alla narrazione.
Le immagini sono state generate utilizzando un modello di intelligenza artificiale txt2img, con prompt dettagliati per assicurare l’adeguata realizzazione dei temi scelti. Durante il processo di creazione, è stata data particolare attenzione alla distribuzione equilibrata degli elementi visivi per garantire che ogni componente del set contribuisse anche alla narrazione generale. Non è stato utilizzato editing tradizionale sui livelli, ma ogni feedback e interazione hanno portato al progressivo sviluppo del risultato visivo in più passaggi. Il processo ha coinvolto gli strumenti per la generazione delle immagini, partendo da prompt dettagliati e sviluppati in base ai criteri del progetto e in relazione alla creatività degli artisti. Questo approccio ha permesso una grande flessibilità nella realizzazione visiva e nella sperimentazione estetica. Il risultato è il punto di arrivo di un percorso fatto di scambi e stimoli continui tra la parte creativa e gli strumenti utilizzati. Da questo punto di vista i prompt testuali utilizzati per la generazione e modifica delle immagini sono stati formulati per guidare specificamente il modello AI verso la produzione di immagini che venissero arricchite e guidate rispettando il tema e le scelte stilistiche desiderate. Ogni passo del processo di interazione è stato guidato da scambi di feedback dettagliati, permettendo aggiustamenti creativi che hanno rafforzato via via l’impatto visivo ed emotivo delle immagini. Questa collaborazione ha assicurato che ogni immagine non solo rispondesse agli obiettivi iniziali, ma che risuonasse con una visione artistica coerente e coinvolgente. Il risultato finale è una serie di immagini che non solo catturano l’essenza di Nu Rome ma evocano una profonda riflessione sulla dualità di Roma come simbolo di antico e nuovo, di decadenza e rinascita.
